Nearly two years in the making...

In the summer of 2011 I visited the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) to attend a retirement celebration for Dr. Lee F. Braithwaite to commemorate his 40+ years of teaching zoology and marine biology at BYU-Provo.

While there I learned that BYU-Provo planned to scale back its marine biology program, and would be taking groups to OIMB only every other year instead of every year.  This presented a unique opportunity for BYU-Idaho.  When I returned to campus I started laying groundwork and developing a proposal for a marine biology field experience for BYU-Idaho students - something never before done by BYU-I.

Gaining approval for this experience was not easy.  After clearing hurdle after hurdle and filling out who knows how many forms...we are now ready to launch the first ever BYU-Idaho Marine Biology Field Experience (MBFE).  Woot!

Visit this site often to keep up with the adventures (hopefully not misadventures) of BYU-Idaho students participating in this inaugural offering of the BYU-Idaho Marine Biology Field Experience.  We will depart soon to spend a month studying marine biology and doing research at OIMB.

Stay tuned...
