Day 2– Down time and a drive down the coast
What a great day! We
have had fabulous weather since our arrival in Oregon, and day 2 of the trip
was no different…at least the first half of the day.
I couldn’t believe it when I woke up around 6am and it was
clear and 70o.
The plan for the morning was to meet at 8:30am to head off to Church. Sure enough, the entire crew was up,
dressed, and ready to go on time. We attended
the North Bend Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where
our group was well received.
You know you are in a good place when the view from the
Church parking lot includes the bay and the ocean!
I wanted to take a drive down the coast and check out a few
places, and everyone wanted to go…so off we went. Our first stop was Bastendorf Beach. By the time we got there the wind was kicking
up, but we got out and checked it out anyway.
It’s a beautiful beach, but was quite windy. It is nevertheless an extremely scenic spot,
with the Cape Arago lighthouse in the background.
We then continued on to Sunset Bay...sorry we couldn't find a more photogenic place to take a look around.
After dinner the group gathered at my cottage for FHE. We took time for extended self-introductions,
and then played a game called “Traveling Pictionary”. Everyone seemed to enjoy that. We wrapped up the evening with popcorn and a
viewing of an ocean-themed episode of “Planet Earth”. That too was enjoyed by all, though I have to
admit that I was bushed and drifted off during the viedo.
The most notable quote of the day was this, “BYU-Idaho
Marine Biology Field Experience – Party on the Rocks.” J
