Sundays provide much-needed down time from the regular routine.
The crew gathered this morning after breakfast and attended the North Bend Ward. We enjoyed the meetings, but left a bit early in order to be sure we could catch the 30 minute window when lunch is served.
Class members took time today to call their mothers and wish them a happy Mothers Day.
After dinner we had FHE at my cottage featuring a thought by Tony, and a round of the game "Traveling Pictionary". A small handful of students stayed longer and watched the movie "Hidalgo".
Here is an update on the seal pup that was found yesterday afternoon on the beach. Someone checked last night around 11p and it was still there, as it was this afternoon, though it had moved down the beach about 100 meters. Sadly, I think that it's been abandoned and will not last long.
Tomorrow we get back to a regular routine - we have a -0.5' low tide field trip in the morning followed by data analysis from Saturday morning's work, then lunch followed by lecture.
Earlier today I asked some of the group "If it felt like we had been here a week already" or "If it felt like it has only been a week." They generally said that it felt like both, and one member of the group said that when he woke up this morning that it almost felt like it was about time to head back home before he realized that we still have three weeks to go. He then said that even if we did leave tomorrow that the trip would have been worth it.
Some of the student projects are up and running, including a group of students who are wrapped up in following the embryonic development of at least a few different species of sea slugs. Slugs rock!
Tune in next time for update on further adventures of the BYU-Idaho Marine Biology Field Experience.
Happy Mothers Day!
